A new season, a new energy! In a charged performance, the Rose Orchestra welcomes back to the stage Rosebud alumni percussionist Madison Keats, and bassoonist Taran Massey-Singh who will usher in the season with two dynamic concertos. And completing this celebration of youthful energy, the Rosebuds will also help launch this season of spirited music, both classic and new!

Madison Keats
Ontario-based percussionist Madison Keats discovered her passion for music through the profound sense of belonging it provided—a feeling she strives to share with every audience. As a female percussionist, she is dedicated to inspiring young girls to enter the field while making live music accessible to broader communities.
Madison holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance with a minor in Psychology from Wilfrid Laurier University. An active orchestral musician, she has performed with the Guelph Symphony Orchestra, Stratford Symphony Orchestra, and Georgian Bay Symphony, as well as in pit orchestras for productions like Little Women and Into the Woods. As a soloist and chamber artist, she has presented for NUMUS concerts and the Percussive Arts Society’s Ontario Day of Percussion.
Driven by a passion for chamber music, Madison co-founded Mirrored Percussion with colleague Cassandra Wolff. The duo centers its programming and upcoming commissions with emerging composers around community, collaboration, women’s empowerment, and inclusion.
Her artistic growth is backed by training at top programs, including the Sandbox Percussion Seminar, TORQ Percussion Seminar, Montreal Percussion Workshop, LAMP’s Composition Academy, and the INTERPLAY residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Internationally, she represented Canada in the World Youth Wind Orchestra at WASBE conferences in Prague (2022) and South Korea (2024).
Looking ahead, Madison aims to explore the intersection of music and athletics. Outside the practice room, she enjoys lifting at the gym, going on walks, and discovering great food.
Taran Massey-Singh is an Indo-Canadian bassoonist and contrabassoonist based in Southern Ontario. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Orchestral Bassoon Performance from the University of Toronto, where he studied under internationally recognized bassoonists and performed in masterclasses led by masters like Theo Plath, Gustavo Núñez, and Sophie Dervaux.
An active freelancer and chamber musician, Taran has performed with the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, Ontario Philharmonic, Urban Orchestra, and Milton Philharmonic Orchestra—including a featured solo performance of Marjan Mozetich's Concerto for Bassoon and Strings with Marimba. His classical work has brought him to prestigious venues such as Roy Thomson Hall, Koerner Hall, and Meridian Hall, alongside delivering educational outreach concerts for diverse audiences.
Beyond classical performance, Taran is deeply rooted in contemporary and experimental music, regularly branching into jazz, free improvisation, and electronic styles. He frequently premieres works at the Canadian Music Centre and collaborates with ensembles like the AMOT Orchestra, New Symphony Orchestra, and U of T’s DOG and Hybrid Ensembles, studying alongside Canadian jazz luminaries Andrew Downing, Patrick O'Reilly, and David Occhipinti.
Taran strives to make the bassoon and contrabassoon cross-functional instruments across non-traditional genres. He uses his platform to champion repertoire by underrepresented composers and address the lack of South Asian representation within classical and new-music communities.
